S355J2 steelis a high performance carbon-manganese unalloyed steel material. As a structural steel, it has excellent strength and weldability. It can be easily welded to other weldable steels. Due to its low carbon equivalent, it has good cold forming properties. The supply of S355J2 steel generally occurs under normalized conditions.
The quality grade of S355J2 steel is S355 and it is one of the most commonly used unalloyed structural steels in Europe. According to the EN 10025-2 standard: Hot-rolled structural steel products, S355 steel is divided into 4 quality grades, namely:
EN 10025 S355J2 equivalent to ASTM A992/A992M; Australian AS/NZS 3678: Grade 350 L20; Canadian G40.20/G40.21: 350WT (55WT); Chinese GB/T 1591: Q355D; and the Indian standard IS 2062: E350.
S355J2 Meaning: “S” means “Structural Steel”; 355 indicates that the material has a minimum yield strength of 355 MPa when the nominal thickness is ≤ 16 mm; and “J2” indicates that the material has a minimum impact energy of 27J at -20°C (-4°F).
S355J2 Steel is a medium strength steel with good weldability and toughness. Considering its mechanical characteristics, it is a very good substitute for C25 and C35. Acceptable results in cementation in limited liability pieces. Its most common applications are for bolts, chains, railway axles, connecting rods and metal structures.
